Red Stripe Beer is a Jamaican lager with nearly a century-long history. Brewers Thomas Hargreaves Geddes and Eugene Desnoes brewed the first Red Stripe Jamaican Lager Beer in 1928. Up until 2023, the brand has had only one product, the very same Red Stripe Jamaican Lager Beer. However, that one product has been very successful. In fact, it is the top-selling beer in the Caribbean and the 22nd top-selling beer in the United States (out of tens of thousands of beer brands). The brand became “part of the Heineken family” in 2016. As of this year, Red Stripe is moving beyond its award-winning product and offering something completely different (but no less Jamaican). In a recent press release, Heineken USA announced an all-new product, Red Stripe Rum. It is a line of ready-to-drink rum cocktails with two exciting flavors.
“Red Stripe Rum Drinks are new ready-to-drink rum cocktails that bring the island spirit to every sip,” the brand writes on its fact sheet. “Just in time for summer, the iconic Jamaican brand’s two new canned rum cocktails deliver tropical vibes and classic flava, crafted with real Caribbean rum, mango and lime juice and high-quality natural ingredients. Perfect for turning it up with friends, Red Stripe Rum Drinks are Maad, a head nod to those who express themselves freely, fully, and fabulously.”
Two New Cocktails with Real Caribbean Rum
Red Stripe Rum comes in two exciting flavors, Red Stripe Rum Punch and Red Stripe Rum Mojito. The brand describes its Rum Punch as “a refreshing and smooth classic citrusy flavor. According to the press release, the Rum Mojito is “a refreshingly sweet and vibrant tropical flavor.” Unlike Red Stripe Beer, which has an alcohol content of 4.7% ABV, the RTD cocktail line has a higher alcohol content of 5.9% ABV. The drinks contain 200 calories and 20 grams of carbohydrates per 12 oz serving. These canned cocktails are “lightly carbonated.” The ingredients include real Caribbean rum, natural flavors, and fruit juice.
Everything We Know
These ready-to-drink cocktails are already available but only in select states (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, Rhode Island, Delaware, and New Jersey). The distribution will expand to New York this summer. This will probably come as a bummer to Red Stripe fans who live in the other forty-two states. However, in email correspondence, the brand states that they “hope to expand to other markets in the future.” Only time will tell if that hope will become a reality. Red Stripe Rum canned cocktails are available now in single-flavor four-packs of 12 oz tall cans.
