Topo Chico Spirited Canned Cocktails
Topo Chico Spirited Canned Cocktails
Topo Chico just announced that it is coming out with a line of spirits-based drinks, Topo Chico Spirited, and it will launch those drinks in 2023. It’s official. 2023 is going to be the year of the canned cocktail. Topo Chico is the latest in a long list of big brands to announce that its products are crossing over to use real spirits in its drinks. Hard Seltzer brand Truly announced it was making this move sometime in late 2022. Coca-Cola is releasing Coca-Cola mixed with Jack Daniels in late 2022. Even Vita Coco plans to develop an RTD in partnership with Captain Morgan Rum in 2023. It’s not all that surprising, either. Analysts have been predicting the rise of RTD canned cocktails for a while now. Clearly, the giants in the beverage industry took notice.
The Popularity of Topo Chico
Topo Chico is a brand that’s enjoyed popularity and its own set of legends for more than a century. The mineral water comes from Mexico. The source of the mineral water of Topo Chico supposedly healed an Aztec princess. Acquired by Coca-Cola, Topo Chico enjoys mainstream popularity and a cult following. In partnership with Molson Coors, Coca-Cola’s Topo Chico launched a hard seltzer brand using its legendary mineral water in 2021 and has seen rapid success. Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is “the fastest-growing brand in its competitive set over the latest 52-week period.” Evidently, Topo Chico hopes to take its popularity to new heights with this move into the emerging and popular RTD canned cocktail market.
“Taking inspiration from the popular cocktails made in bars and restaurants today, Topo Chico Spirited will bring something completely different to our aisle,” said David Coors, Molson Coors’ vice president of next-generation beverages. “We believe Topo Chico Spirited will shake up the canned cocktail space with unparalleled flavors and a legacy rooted in the iconic 125-year-old master brand.”
What We Know
According to the press release, Topo Chico Spirited will be available in twenty-two select states in 2023. The states will be Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan, and Virginia (including Washington DC). This planned launch is similar to how Molson Coors and Coca-Cola originally launched Topo Chico Hard Seltzer. However, with that launch, Topo Chico Hard Seltzer was released in only nine states in March of 2021. Topo Chico Hard Seltzer was then released nationally in January of 2022. This brings us to hope that Molson Coors and Coca-Cola will do the same and widen the release of Topo Chico Spirited to all fifty states soon after its initial 2023 launch.
Molson Coors has confirmed that Topo Chico Spirited will use tequila from Jalisco, Mexico. However, Molson Coors also hints that tequila will not be the only spirit it will use. The brand states that Topo Chico Spirited is also inspired by “beloved… vodka-based beverages.” However, we won’t know what delightful flavors and drinks Topo Chico Spirited has in store for us until closer to the launch date. All we know for sure is that 2023 will be a great year.
